OPPO Enco X offers Bluetooth 5.2 and other unique features

It goes without saying that OPPO is a familiar name in the smartphone market of India. However, in recent times, the brand’s audio line-up has really taken gadget enthusiasts by surprise. Recently on the 18th of January, the company launched the all-new OPPO Enco X, which is being touted as a “flagship killer” amongst true wireless headsets.

And why not? The specification sheet tells us it’s really something to watch out for! Created in collaboration with the Danish high-end audio brand Dynaudio, this set of earphones comes with a dual-driver setup. Besides, it is also equipped with active noise cancellation, which makes it quite feature-rich, given the price range it belongs to. Priced at Rs. 9,900, which is comparatively lower than brands such as Apple, Samsung, Sony, Sennheiser, etc., it will surely give you a bang for your buck!

What is special about Bluetooth 5.2

When it comes to streaming audio applications and audio devices, Bluetooth is surely the industry standard. Towards the beginning of 2020, the latest version of Bluetooth technology, version 5.2 was introduced. It came with new benefits for the next-gen wireless devices and audio technologies. For example, it features an upgraded version of the original Attribute Protocol (ATT) called Enhanced Attribute Protocol (EATT). Unlike ATT which functions in a sequential manner, which means, it performs transactions one at a time, EATT operates in a concurrent manner, meaning it can handle parallel transactions between a BLE client and a server. No wonder, this is one of the USPs of the all-new OPPO Enco X

Dual-driver setup joins hands with the expertise of Dynaudio

The glossy earpieces promise a proper in-canal fit and are accompanied by short stems. The sales package also includes three sets of silicone ear tips and a charging cable. The stems are touch-sensitive and can be used to control playback and volume. You can customize them directly through the settings of your OPPO smartphone or the HeyMelody app.

The Active Noise Cancellation feature makes use of a dual-microphone system to offer two levels of intensity, namely- Regular and Max, along with a transparency mode. Each earpiece is actually endowed with three microphones, for calls and environmental noise cancellation for voice. With each earpiece weighing merely 4.8g, you would enjoy absolute comfort even during long listening sessions, thanks to the secure, noise-isolating fit. As far as dust and water resistance are concerned, these are IP54 rated earphones.

Available in two colour options, black and white, you get a charging case that matches the colour of the earpods. At the top of the metallic band that runs all around the case, you’ll find the OPPO logo, the side features, and the pairing button, while at the bottom, there’s the USB Type-C port for charging. The case also has support for Qi wireless charging, while the back of the case proudly flaunts “co-created with Dynaudio”, signifying OPPO’s noteworthy collaboration with the Danish high-end audio manufacturer Dynaudio for the Enco X.

Under the hood, these earphones boast dual drivers that comprise a 6mm balanced membrane driver for the high frequencies and an 11mm dynamic driver for the mids and lows. The Bluetooth 5.2-enabled earphones support LHDC, AAC, and SBC Bluetooth codecs. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.2, you can enjoy stable connectivity over reasonable distances. They also quickly pair with the last used device as soon as you take them out of the case. LHDC is an advanced Bluetooth codec that is touted to be at par with LDAC and aptX as far as transfer rates and latency are concerned.

Rich and Detailed Sound

Since it is difficult to fit more than one driver in the limited space available in each earpiece, the concept of dual-driver setups is relatively new for wireless earphones. OPPO, in this case, has manifested exceptional engineering feat, delivering impressive sound across genres and sources. This, coupled with the decent active noise cancellation feature and Dynaudio’s expertise, guarantees an immersive listening experience.

Following the launch of this product, I would put across the observation that OPPO’s range of audio products is quite underrated. It offers the perfect balance of attractive features, well-functioning active noise cancellation and voice performance, and a great sound for the price it commands.
